Special 02

 (Yujo no Katachi)

The Form that Friendship Takes

Narration by Asakura Mikihisa (43 years old)

Manta explains how he first met Yoh. He cuts through the forest and hears Yoh comment on how beautiful the stars are. At Shinra Private School, in Middle School First Year Class C, Manta walks in all beat up after Ryu of the Wooden Sword beat him up as he was trying to prove to his classmates that spirits exist. The ability to see spirits is not a common human trait, but Yoh walks into class and confirms that spirits do exist.

Yoh grabs manta’s hand and decides to head over to Ryu’s. He says that his grandfather told him that no bad person can see spirits. With Amidamaru, Yoh uses spirit ball mode to form Hyoi Gattai and defeats Ryu’s boys. Manta then understands that a shaman connects this world with the next. When Ryu attacks, Yoh smacks him in the face, cutting off a piece of his hair.

Enter Ren, who immediately challenges Yoh. Ren claims that he is destined to become the Shaman King. He hates and destroys all he sees to hide his sadness. Yoh and Ren are like oil and water, but just about of equal power. When they do fight at the preliminary Shaman King Elimination Round fight, they end up tied. After that fight, Ren slowly started to warm up, but he still had a mission to complete before he could join the boys.

That mission was to take on Ren’s father, En. During the fight, Ren learns why people fight for each other and breaks the seal that binds him. Everyone fights together until En uses up all his furyoku and is defeated.

As Yoh and Manta walk along, they meet Horo Horo lying on the road. He lives with nature in the Northlands as part of the honorable Ainu Clan. Horo Horo hitchhiked to Tokyo to pursue his dream of creating a huge butterbur field for the Koropokkuru, the spirits who live under the butterburs in the Northlands. Yoh’s first match in the preliminary Shaman King Elimination Round fight is with Horo Horo. He uses Kororo’s greatest move, Epikari Kyuupashi Horosuke to create an avalanche. It’s not enough to stop Yoh, though.

During Yoh’s battle with Ren, Ryu saw spirits and demanded to be Yoh’s disciple and learn the ways of the shaman. Anna was ready to accept him and give him household chores. When Yoh and Manta briefly go their separate ways, Ryu takes him on a journey to reunite the two in Izumo… to find his Best Place. Along the way, Mikihisa asks if Ryu wants his training to become a Shaman with Tokugaru as his spirit.

In a town, Lyserg asks Ryu to join him as a companion. Lyserg is a dowser. His spirit is Morphine. He is looking for strong companions and immediately attacks Yoh and the boys to test their abilities. Yoh refuses to fight Lyserg, but when Lyserg attacks from behind, Yoh easily breaks it and walks off with his injured companions. Lyserg had been filled with darkness since Hao killed both his parents, so after a brief reprimand, Yoh invites Lyserg to come with them.

The last to join the group is Chocolove, the Black Jaguar, whose nose can track anything. His spirit is Mikku the Jaguar. He uses his wind of laughter to perform OverSoul Ayers Rock, his greatest gag that frees spirits from evil control.
